Immigration by Investment Updates Regarding Malta and Portugal
By Zenturo Ltd. (Malta-Citizenship.info)
Welcome to 2022!
We are pleased to report that the Malta (EU) citizenship and residency by investment regulations continue unchanged into 2022, with government staff having returned from vacations and diligently working on the backlog of applications.
Given that the Cyprus citizenship by investment program remains discontinued, Malta has emerged as the premier destination for HNWI’s interested in a second passport or permanent (long-term) residency.
For short term residency, the Malta Nomad Residence Permit, introduced last year, has also turned out to be a popular success amongst digital nomads from around the globe who are now enjoying their remote work in sunny Malta.
One immigration by investment program that has changed significantly, however, is that of Portugal: several investment minimums have been raised, and full-time residential property acquisitions are now limited to parts of the Algarve coastal region and to the less-populated inland areas of the country. Applicants wishing to invest into the coastal tourism centers of Lisbon and Porto are now limited to time-share type projects, limiting physical stays in their properties to a few weeks per year.
